Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Iran recommend books on the history and culture of Iran

Serving in the Peace Corps provides one a perspective of a country that comes only from living with the people and speaking their language.

Hundreds of young volunteers served in Iran during the 1960s and 1970s, bringing home their impressions of Iran and its people and culture.

For many, Peace Corps service in Iran had a life-long impact as profound as their career path or as minor as their choices for ethnic restaurants.

Many have been able to return to visit Iran and find the Iranian people remain exceptionally friendly towards Americans.

In 2010 a group of returned volunteers used a social network to assemble a list of book titles that would provide a good introduction to the Iranian people and their culture. The list is alphabetical by title with no attempt to rank them. Hopefully, the short description will be beneficial to you.
